In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
