The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
