The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 The night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
