The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
