He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
