Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
