The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
