The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
