The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And stay away from idols. 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
