He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
