The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
