The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And yet they say: "You, to whom this Exposition has been sent are surely possessed of the Devil. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
