The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
