The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 stay away from sins 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
