Alshu'araa' 7 of 11

[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
