The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
