The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
