The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
