The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
