And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the consideration of those who disbelieve! Then woe to those who disbelieve (in Islamic Monotheism) from the Fire! 27 Shall We make those who believe and work righteous works like unto the corrupters in the earth; or shall We make the God-fearing like unto the wicked! 28 A Book We have sent down to thee, Blessed, that men possessed of minds may ponder its signs and so remember. 29 We gave David Solomon. He was an excellent servant who always turned to God. 30 [and even] when, towards the close of day, nobly-bred, swift-footed steeds were brought before him, 31 And he said: "Alas! I did love the good (these horses) instead of remembering my Lord (in my 'Asr prayer)" till the time was over, and (the sun) had hidden in the veil (of night). 32 Bring them back to me; so he began to slash (their) legs and necks. 33 And We did try Solomon: We placed on his throne a body (without life); but he did turn (to Us in true devotion): 34 He prayed, "Lord forgive me! Grant me such power as no one after me will have -- You are the Most Generous Provider." 35 Then We subjected the wind to his power, so that it blew gently, at his behest, wherever he willed, 36 And made the demons subservient to him, all builders and divers. 37 And others bound in fetters. 38 [And We told him:] "This is Our gift, for thee to bestow freely on others, or to withhold, without [having to render] account!" 39 And verily for him is an approach with Us, and a happy end. 40
