Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Clear Book 2 Verily We! We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that haply ye may reflect. 3 And Lo! in the Source of Decrees, which We possess, it is indeed sublime, decisive. 4 Should We have withdrawn the Reminder from you as you are a people who exceed the bounds? 5 And how many a Prophet have We sent amongst the men of old. 6 And whenever any Prophet came to them, they only mocked at him. 7 Wherefore We destroyed peoples mightier than these in prowess; and there hath gone forth the example of the ancients. 8 If you ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?", they will surely answer, "The Almighty, the All Knowing One has created them." 9 Who hath made for you the earth a bed, and hath made for you paths therein that haply ye may be directed. 10 It is He who sends water down from the sky in due measure, We revive dead land with it and likewise you will be resurrected from the grave, 11 He Who created all the pairs, and appointed for you ships and cattle whereupon ye ride. 12 That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say. "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it. 13 And surely to our Lord we must return. 14 But they have attributed to Him from His servants a portion. Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful. 15
