The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
