The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
