The 'Aad belied the sent ones. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
