Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
