The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And shade extended 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
