The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
