He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
