The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
