And to (the tribe of) Thamud (We sent) their brother Salih. He said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him. A wonder from your Lord hath come unto you. Lo! this is the camel of Allah, a token unto you; so let her feed in Allah's earth, and touch her not with hurt lest painful torment seize you. 73 And remember what time He made you successors after 'Ad and inherited you in earth; ye take for yourselves palaces in the plains whereof and ye hew out the mountains as houses. Remember ye wherefore the benefits of Allah and commit not evil on the earth as corrupters. 74 The leaders of the arrogant party among his people said to those who were reckoned powerless - those among them who believed: "know ye indeed that Salih is a messenger from his Lord?" They said: "We do indeed believe in the revelation which hath been sent through him." 75 Those who were haughty said: Surely we are deniers of what you believe in. 76 Then they ham-strung the she-camel, and insolently defied the order of their Lord, saying: "O Salih! bring about thy threats, if thou art a messenger (of Allah)!" 77 So the earthquake seized them, and morning found them in their habitation fallen prostrate. 78 Then he turned away from them and said: O my people I did certainly deliver to you the message of my Lord, and I gave you good advice, but you do not love those who give good advice. 79 And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? 80 Most surely you come to males in lust besides females; nay you are an extravagant people. 81 But the answer of his people was only that they said, "Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure." 82 And We rescued him and his family, except his wife – she became of those who stayed behind. 83 And We rained a shower (of stones) upon them; therefore see what sort of fate befell the culprits! 84
