The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
