But the leaders of his people who denied the truth and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, because We had granted them ease and plenty in their worldly life, said, "This is only a human being like yourselves, he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink, 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people! 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 Towards Firaun and his court members – in response they were haughty, and they were in dominance. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring. 50
