So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Do they say: "He is a poet for whom we expect an adverse turn of fortune?" 30 Tell them: "Keep on expecting, I am expecting with you." 31 Is it their minds that bid them [to take] this [attitude] - or are they [simply] people filled with overweening arrogance? 32 Do they say: 'He has invented it' No, they do not believe. 33 So let them bring a single discourse like it, if they are truthful. 34 Have they not been created by aught, or are they the creators? 35 [And] have they created the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no certainty of anything! 36 Or do they have your Lord's treasures in their keeping? Or have absolute authority over them? 37 Have they a ladder up to heaven by means of which they can overhear? Then let their listeners bring a clear proof. 38 Or has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or do you demand any wages from them so that they are burdened with expense? 40 Or [do they think] that the hidden reality [of all that exists] is almost within their grasp, so that [in time] they can write it down? 41 Or desire they to outwit? The unbelievers, they are the outwitted. 42 Or do they have a God besides Allah? Purity is to Allah from their ascribing of partners to Him. 43 And if they should see a fragment of the heaven falling down, they would say: it is only clouds piled up. 44 So leave them alone till they meet their Day, in which they will sink into a fainting (with horror). 45 The Day when their plotting will avail them nothing and no help shall be given them. 46 And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know. 47 And so, await in patience thy Sustainer's judgment, for thou art well within Our sight. And extol thy Sustainer's limitless glory and praise whenever thou risest up, 48 And in the night also hallow Him, and at the setting of the stars. 49
