Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
