Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights! 2 and the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
