The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
