The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
