Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
