The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
