The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And the lofty roof. 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
