He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
