The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 And when the pregnant she-camels shall be neglected; 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 when heaven shall be stripped off; 11 when Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 I swear by the receding stars, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 by the night swarming, 17 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- 18 Verily this is the word of a noble message-bearer; 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Then where are you going? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
