He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
