The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
