The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 Verily he was among his people joyous. 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
