The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the heavens and the night Star -- 1 And what shall make thee know that which the night-comer is? 2 (It is) the star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no soul but has a protector over it. 4 So let man look - from what is he created. 5 He has been created from an ejected drop of fluid 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 On the day when all secrets will be made public, 9 and [man] will have neither strength nor helper! 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 And the earth which opens up (with verdure), 12 Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. 13 And no trifle. 14 They are planning a scheme, 15 And I am planning a scheme. 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
