The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
