Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha Mim 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
