The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
