He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
